The Gibson Lupus ARC is a nonprofit organization has a goal dedicated to supporting individuals living with lupus and autoimmune diseases. Our mission is to empower individuals through awareness campaigns, resource accessibility, and community-building initiatives that improve quality of life. As part of our commitment, we aim to provide critical services, including housing and employment support, alongside other programs designed to help individuals live fuller, healthier lives. These services address the multiple challenges faced by those living with chronic illnesses and will have a lasting impact on the Texas homeless population and beyond.
In addition to our internal efforts, Gibson Lupus ARC will actively partner with other lupus and autoimmune disease organizations to amplify our reach, enhance resources, and strengthen the impact of our programs. These collaborations will ensure a comprehensive, statewide approach to supporting those affected by lupus and related conditions.
In Texas alone, approximately 120,000 individuals are living with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that causes severe inflammation and pain throughout the body. Another 200,000 U.S. adults suffer from systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), the most common form of lupus, which predominantly affects women of childbearing age (15–44 years). Many individuals living with lupus and other autoimmune disorders struggles with unstable housing, unable to maintain stable homes due to the physical, emotional, and financial burdens of managing their condition.
The Gibson Lupus ARC is committed to addressing these housing challenges through a comprehensive program that integrates stable housing with other essential support services, helping individuals regain independence, health, and productivity.
The Gibson Lupus ARC proposes to provide subsidized or free housing vouchers to individuals with lupus and other autoimmune diseases, particularly those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. These individuals face unique challenges, as their chronic illnesses often limit their ability to maintain stable employment and access adequate housing. Our housing program will focus on providing:
Collaboration with other lupus and autoimmune disease organizations is a key strategy in expanding the reach and impact of the Gibson Lupus ARC. These partnerships will enhance our program offerings, provide additional resources, and increase awareness of lupus and related autoimmune diseases. Potential partners include:
These collaborations will ensure a comprehensive, statewide approach to supporting those affected by lupus and related conditions. We will leverage the expertise and resources of our partners to maximize the impact of our housing, employment, health, and wellness programs.
In addition to providing housing and employment support, the Gibson Lupus ARC will develop and maintain a comprehensive database tracking system for Texans living with lupus and other autoimmune diseases. This system will enable the organization to:
By gathering and analyzing this data, the Gibson Lupus ARC can ensure that we are meeting the needs of our participants while advocating for increased funding and research into lupus and autoimmune diseases.
The Gibson Lupus ARC is committed to providing the essential services that individuals living with lupus and autoimmune diseases need to live independent, fulfilling lives. By integrating housing support with employment programs, health and wellness initiatives, and job training, we aim to address the multiple challenges faced by this underserved population. Our comprehensive approach will not only support individuals living with lupus but will also create lasting change in the homeless population across the US, helping them achieve stability, economic independence, and improved health outcomes. Through partnerships with other lupus and autoimmune disease organizations, we can maximize our impact, expand our reach, and ensure that those affected by these conditions receive the care and support they deserve.
With your support, we can create a brighter future where individuals with chronic illnesses are empowered to lead healthier, more productive lives, no longer defined by their diagnosis but by their resilience and strength.
